With Christmas out of the way for another year, it’s time to focus our attention on the next big celebration, New Year’s Eve! With partygoers out in force across the country, a night on the town might not seem like an attractive proposition to you. Instead, many people aim to outdo the bars and clubs and host their one New Year’s Eve party. If you plan on doing the same then make sure you do it right!
Limit the invites
Whilst New Year’s Eve is the one night of the year where it seems like everyone is ready to party, remember not to get carried away with the invites. When you’re planning your invite list, keep in mind the size and facilities of your home. Whilst your party should be buzzing with friends and family, you don’t want it to become overcrowded and unenjoyable.
Decorations and props
Chances are your Christmas decorations are still on display throughout your home, so why not keep it that way? Fairy lights are great for creating a party atmosphere whilst keeping it warm and welcoming. Although your Christmas tree may look pretty, you should consider taking it down, as it takes up valuable space. You can also pick up some New Year’s bunting and other various themed decorations, however, keep it limited and subtle. Lastly, don’t forget party hats, confetti, and party poppers!
Don’t miss the countdown!
Position clocks visibly around your home or set an alarm on your phone for the midnight countdown as this can easily be missed with all the music and chatter.
Avoid the clean-up
The downside to hosting your own New Year’s Eve party is you will be responsible for cleaning up the next day! However, there are ways to limit this. Start by buying disposable table items such as plastic cups, plates, cutlery, and napkins. You can even by New Year’s Eve items to add to the theme of the party. Also, use cloths on tables and any nice furniture to limit stains from accidental spills. Finally, try and recruit a friend or family member to help with the clean-up as two pairs of hands are better than one!
Food and drink
Whilst you should supply some food and drink for your guest, you don’t have to break the bank doing so. Some simple party food, a few crates of beer, and a bottle of champagne will be much appreciated by your guests. Also, ask them to bring a drink with them, and then there will be plenty for everyone! If you are supplying beer, then aim to buy cans instead of bottles as they are easier to dispose of the next day.
Prepare sleeping accommodation
Some of your guests may be looking to you for accommodation for the night, so be prepared for this! Ask any guests to let you know beforehand so you have an idea of how many people will be staying. Dig our any extra pillows, duvets, or bedding you have as these may come in handy!
