The town of Thorpe St Andrew is located on the River Yare, just two miles east of the city of Norwich. It has a large population of approximately 14,500 as of the 2011 census. Its good facilities, new housing developments, and its strong commuter links to the city centre make it a popular location to live.

The town has a long and rich history with evidence recovered suggesting the area was inhabited during prehistoric times. The construction of houses has previously led to the discovery of prehistoric flint tools from the southern part of the parish. Evidence from the Bronze Age has also been discovered in the form of pits and ditches, as well as post holes which may indicate the presence of a building, and various tools. There’s also evidence collected that show Thorpe to be occupied by the Romans; including a Roman hearth and pit, as well as a number of Roman period objects.

Thorpe St Andrew has a number of useful facilities and amenities with an engaging community who regularly benefit from them. In the town is a local secondary school, Thorpe St Andrew School, and three primary schools. There are also a number of pubs, cafes, restaurants, takeaways, convenience stores, butchers, a post office, and a Sainsbury’s supermarket. The Yare boat club situated on Thorpe Island, and give people the chance to row on the River Yare. Also in the town is the Oasis Sports and Leisure Centre, the County Arts Club, Thorpe Kite Flyers, and a number of sports clubs.
