Location of the Week – Holkham

Holkham Hall

The village and civil parish of Holkham is located in the north-west of Norfolk. The parish covers an area of 23 square kilometres and had a population of just 236 in the 2001 Census. Although small in size and population, Holkham has a number of local businesses and attractions. The most famous being Holkham Hall. This 18th century country house is located on a 25,000 acre estate, which also includes the majority of businesses in Holkham and is an important cornerstone in the development of Holkham and the surrounding areas. Holkham Hall was built by the 1st Earl of Leicester, Thomas Coke, and today is still a lived-in family home, which is also open to the public on Mondays, Thursdays, and Sunday. Numerous events have been hosted on the estate over the years with future events in the making. Some past events include performances from Sir Elton John and Status Quo. Not far from the village and estate is the beautiful beach. As part of the Holkham Nature Reserve, this beach is well maintained and a great place to relax with the family.
